MGMT @ Webster Hall, 10-30, Redux

Friday, October 31st, 2008

I posted earlier on how well this show went for us…check it out and read the comments, someone vehemently disagreed with me.

I Found this on YT just now (I’m not monitoring, or nothing); a little better sound quality than the Kids video I posted earlier.

MGMT Destroyed Webster Hall Last Night!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

If last night’s MGMT concert was prologue to what’s in store this Halloween weekend. Holy. Toledo.

Dressed handsomely as a mariachi band, they put a hurting on Webster Hall in NYC last night. I scored a ticket last minute, because somebody wanted to go see Philadelphia burn. Sports and Rock n’ Roll converge, and everybody wins. It’s a beautiful thing.

Check out the song that got this band signed, Kids. Got to battle horrendous fan vocal stylings (from what sounds like a singular douche, possibly the same guy with camera) - par for the course with in-crowd videos. The highlight comes about 3:00 minutes in; I’ll give you a hint: it’s shredding.

If anyone gets their hands on photos or the cover of ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’, send it my way!

Traders Trading Blows in NYC

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Economic turmoil aside, Doubledown Media held their annual Wall Street Boxing Charity Championship this past weekend, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC.

The show’s card featured white collar pugilists from some of (if not all of what’s left of) the big firms in the city dukeing it out in front of a crowd that popped for tickets ranging from $125 to $10,000. The event raised money for Youth Village in Rwanda and Tuesday’s Children, which helps families of 9/11 victims.

Check out one of the knockdown laden showdowns right here!

If You Had Money Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Issue 6

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Kissing Suzy Kolber’s Drew Magary is on some sort of internet spree and tirade this week in honor of the release of his new book, Men With Balls. To show gratitude, dedicating today’s example of how-to show the government that you’re adamant about featherbrained spending even during these tough economic times to some leit reading that’s available for you to procure…

That’s Vol. 1, No. 1 right thurr! With Marilyn Monroe as the original “Sweetheart of the Month”, of course.

$7,500 ain’t the price though - it’s the starting bid, folks. So you better be savvy with your interweb bidding skills as well as possess the fatness, Jack. (or you could just go pick up Men With Balls for a milli-fraction of the cost on Amazon).

When you search for MWBs on Amazon, the results yield other quality titles as well

See more If You Had Money posts here.

Even though I’ve pretty much fazed video games out of my life, I can appreciate this. EA and NBA 2K9 announced a concert tour this week, that will feature a troupe of rap artists touring in support of the new game.

Go to Pitchfork and check out the tour dates; whether you’re a premiere team in the West or a mediocre team in the East (or you live in Aspen), they should be coming to a town near you. Check out some of the artists that’ll be seen on the 2K Sports Bounce Tour….

Thandie Newton as Sarah Palin

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Not the creme brulee (Tina, of course) of Sarah Palin mockeries, but Thandie Newton is nice to look at, and she’s trying.

The subtext to these Brits reading a scene from a porno about Sarah Palin - somebody (an American, that you’ve heard of) hates Sarah Palin that much that he made a porno to spite her!

The World of Isaac has a hilarious post up about Monta Ellis’ Moped that sparks today’s look at how you can make you bottom line dip. Isaac, thank you friend.

Without further adieu, let’s give its due adieu to The Segshaw!

Was there ever any doubt that a Segway looks like something you’d want to be pulled by?

On rickshaws, in general. I once found myself frantically trying to hail a cab outside Macy’s, during Christmastime (because I plan well like that). After much failure, I had to settle for an elf in a rickshaw; it was one of the most horrific experiences of my entire life.

And I wonder, if that elfin maniac was limited by the 8 MPH (0 horsepower) governor of the Segway, would he still have treated the midtown bus lanes like his own personal leisure trail system?

if you have $7,400 clams and love danger, check this bad sally out.

Optimus Prime on the front, deal breaker or clincher?

The sheened coif of John Oates stood up to the pre-downpour storm winds marvelously, as he belted out the anthem before last night’s World Series almost-game. Nod to Brahsome for this.

So we’re in the bar watching football yesterday afternoon, and this commercial comes on. Before I even have a chance to figure out what’s going on on-screen, my buddy remarks, “this is the douchey-est thing that I’ve ever seen.”

The douchey-est thing that I’ve ever seen. Yep, pretty accurate.
