Next Sunday marks the first Super Bowl since Lil Wayne got out of jail. At some point he’s going to say who thinks is going to win. And for some reason I care.

As a fan of his body of work, I implore Wayne to step up and do more than just make his prediction for the outcome of the game – he needs to rescue us from the musical direction of the Super Bowl thus far – Black Eyed Peas at halftime and just announced Christina Aguilera singing the National Anthem.

And don’t act like you don’t care about the music at the Super Bowl, you know you wish AC/DC was playing halftime.

All that considered, I’d very much appreciate it if Lil Wayne rattled off a Super Bowl rap sometime before next Sunday (he’ll probably log about 120+ hours in the studio between now and then). Just something upbeat to get us fired up for Pittsburgh – Green Bay that the kids and B.J. Raji can dance to.

And not for nothing, he should feel obligated after picking Favre to beat his hometown New Orleans in the NFC Championship last year.

For those of you who question whether Wayne could pull off a killer sports rap, check out this verse he did about Kobe a while back.

And I don’t think he’s going to considering that he’s retweeting stuff like this.

By now most sports fans are learning that Jay Cutler most likely tore a ligament in his knee, and that’s why we got to witness the brilliance and agony of Caleb Hanie (and just the agony of Todd Collins) yesterday. Cutler didn’t just quit, as some people – like MJD – may have suggested.

If you’re like me, you watched yesterday’s game in a crowded bar where you couldn’t hear the sound, and probably never thought that it was even a consideration that Cutler up and quit on his team. I think the other MJD, Matthew J. Darnell from Yahoo! Sports, summed it up best in in these two paragraphs:

The notion that he quit yesterday doesn’t make sense. Cutler was playing poorly, so he wanted out of the game? He was taking a beating, so he didn’t want to play anymore?

Like Jay Cutler has never played poorly or taken a beating before. As a matter of fact, if there’s anything that Jay Cutler has proven in his career, it’s that when he’s throwing interceptions, he is absolutely willing to stay on the field and keep throwing interceptions. It’s his defining trait.

Cutler diagnoses forth coming. As for Maurice, I’ll continue to follow him, but expect less offerings of remorse, more TwitPics…

UPDATE (2:45 PM EST): Lovie Smith sez Cutler has a sprained MCL, would have been questionable for the Super Bowl.

I’ll be honest, I don’t necessarily miss fantasy football right now. I finished a contemptible 9th place this year. Nevertheless, I can’t pass up a golden opportunity to make the Saints-Seahawks game more interesting this weekend.

This NFL postseason, those dastardly community organizers of the sports blogosphere, Blogs With Balls are originating playoff fantasy football. If you have a sports blog, you can go to BWB and register and select your team. Make sure you read the rules carefully (or you can just email Don like I did). To summarize, there’s no draft, you just pick your roster. There are certain stipulations, but as they mention “the goal is to create a roster that is just different enough to allow you to win.” Just make sure that roster includes Drew Brees.

Winner takes home a Timex e-Altimeter watch. Based on how I’ve faired in fantasy of late, I’m not going to bother looking up what e-Altimeter means.

Good luck to all my fellow sports bloggers who get in on this. Hope you pick the correct Patriots for your squad.

Jets fans, tell me, what kind of a taste does this leave in your mouth?

Patriots owner Robert Kraft visited the set of Mike & Mike this morning, who were on location at Patriots Place in Foxboro, MA for tonight’s most anticipated Monday Night Football game between the Pats and Jets.

Maybe it was because Kraft compared both Greeny’s hairstyle and allure with the ladies to that of Tom Brady (both untruths, right ladies?), but somehow he got Greenberg, a Jets fanatic, to put a Brady jersey on over his Namath jersey. Golic could simply add an oh no.

Make sure you tune in tonight for what could be the signature game of the 2010 regular season. Levy already predicted that the ratings will eclipse every single MNF game in history (save for those featuring the Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s). I’ll go as far to predict that tonight’s game will bring to end Darrell Revis’ 48-hour Twitter hiatus, for sure.

Ryan Clark is definitely worth following on Twitter. He @ replies a lot. He’s got some knowledge (particularly if you’re a spiritual person). And his pontifications are pretty entertaining too. (Why do kickers wear gloves?)

Last night, ESPN reporter Jemele Hill, a fine Tweeter in her own regard, threw out the question: ‘if ur child wanted a Vick jersey for Xmas, would you buy it?’

Clark promptly responded:

Earlier today, I found myself asking asking why is Darrelle Revis on Stereogum.com, an indie music blog, wearing a smooth jacket in a Nike ad? Tagline: More Than The Island.

Upon further investigation, found out that he’s part of a heap of young NFL players who are promoting the Nike Destroyer jacket from Nike Sport, including Revis, Larry Fitzgerald, Johnny Knox and DeSean Jackson. Three-times Olympic Medallist Allyson Felix models the women’s version.

Citing what I saw on Stereogum, the ads look pretty slick as wrapper on blogs, and the campaign is starting to gain steam in social media – DeSean Jackson tweeted a link to his video (see below).

Since this is sportswear, which means attire not necessarily tied to athletic wear (right?), Nike is getting some non-pros involved as well – like the band Ra Ra Riot, who are in a video on Nike.com talking about musical inspiration sought through trying to be the best at exercising.

Oh, and the Destroyer jacket is available for $175 on Nike.com.

If the Philly fans share Nutter’s sentiment, expect a rousing display of exuberance Sunday night when Vick comes out the tunnel.

Eagles.com points out that this will be the first time this season that Vick will be introduced as the Eagles starting quarterback.

At approximately 8:22 PM, Michael Vick will be introduced to the Eagles faithful as the starting quarterback for the first time. Considering the season that Vick has had, especially Monday night’s game in Washington, one can only imagine what the reception will be.

Vick said Friday that he hasn’t thought too much about his introduction before today, but it’s something that he’s excited to experience in Philadelphia.

My prediction: a rousing display of exuberance.

I had to throw Vick a nice one after giving him and his people a hard time about failing to launch MikeVick.com this week (now, coming soon).

Mike Vick was named NFL Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row - first QB to do that since Randall Cunningham in his comeback year – and all is quiet on the contract extension front.

But more importantly, what’s up with the website?

It may just be a clever ruse to get Pro Bowl votes (hey, Marcus Vick tweeted it!), if so, that works for me. This will be the second day in a row that I mention that the entire website is a full-browser link to the Pro Bowl ballot, currently.

According to the MikeVick.com homepage, the website is launching today. It was supposed to be yesterday. Frankly, I don’t expect to be wildly impressed – Lebron’s website is slick as hell, and I’ve only been back once (to see the nine year old phenom, right) since the launch. Just thought launching yesterday, post-record setting MNF performance, would have been a huge win. Also, got to believe they’ll be something interesting on their about, let’s call it, the journey back?

Stay tuned, Marcus.
