Content aside, how many followers is it going to take before Buzz selects a Twitter pic other than the egg? I’ve already told the people at The Daily Beast that they should set him up with an outlandish avatar. I don’t think I’m the first person to make this suggestion.

We’ve been over and over Buzz’s behavior on Twitter. Frighteningly enough, he’s now using it to launch a mayoral campaign.

As for this, the title of the post pretty much covers what’s going on here:

After an inauspicious exit in 2009, Brian Wilson is back on Twitter. When did this glorious event occur?

To be precise, Feb 2. I didn’t find out about it until yesterday, March 2nd – when I investigated who Charlie Sheen is following.

Good to have Brian back and currently tweeting shout-outs to area codes and developing Twitter relationships with other crazy guys.

By now most sports fans are learning that Jay Cutler most likely tore a ligament in his knee, and that’s why we got to witness the brilliance and agony of Caleb Hanie (and just the agony of Todd Collins) yesterday. Cutler didn’t just quit, as some people – like MJD – may have suggested.

If you’re like me, you watched yesterday’s game in a crowded bar where you couldn’t hear the sound, and probably never thought that it was even a consideration that Cutler up and quit on his team. I think the other MJD, Matthew J. Darnell from Yahoo! Sports, summed it up best in in these two paragraphs:

The notion that he quit yesterday doesn’t make sense. Cutler was playing poorly, so he wanted out of the game? He was taking a beating, so he didn’t want to play anymore?

Like Jay Cutler has never played poorly or taken a beating before. As a matter of fact, if there’s anything that Jay Cutler has proven in his career, it’s that when he’s throwing interceptions, he is absolutely willing to stay on the field and keep throwing interceptions. It’s his defining trait.

Cutler diagnoses forth coming. As for Maurice, I’ll continue to follow him, but expect less offerings of remorse, more TwitPics…

UPDATE (2:45 PM EST): Lovie Smith sez Cutler has a sprained MCL, would have been questionable for the Super Bowl.

As stated in his Twitter profile, #90 claims to work at Whole Foods, be a part time stripper, ate two rats a long time ago, study the movie Blow and has seen your sex tape.

But he never claimed to have such impeccable tastes.

On December 2, Duchene became the first Avalanche player to start tweeting and earlier this week he explained that the cause was simple – generate more interest in the team through social media, which will translate to more ticket sales – Avs are currently 26th in the league in ticket sales – and ultimately more wins.

“You look at our team, and we’ve got so much talent and guys that are worth watching, and it’s discouraging to go out on a Wednesday night and see 12,000-13,000 fans,” Duchene said after Wednesday’s practice at Duluth Ice Forum. “I thought to myself, ‘What can I do, other than continuing to try and help the team on the ice, to help it off the ice. This was something that came right away into my head, to try to reach out. I feel that anytime someone feels a connection to a player, they want to go watch them more. My main motivation was to try and put more people in the seats. Because when we play in front of a full house, it’s a lot more energy.”

Yesterday, @Matt9Duchene passed the 5,000 follower mark. Duchene himself is following 25 people, including Jeremy Piven and Taylor Swift.

His teammate and cohort in spearheading the USMNT Twitter spokesman duties, Landon Donovan got a little more descriptive in disclosing his frustrations:

Ryan Clark is definitely worth following on Twitter. He @ replies a lot. He’s got some knowledge (particularly if you’re a spiritual person). And his pontifications are pretty entertaining too. (Why do kickers wear gloves?)

Last night, ESPN reporter Jemele Hill, a fine Tweeter in her own regard, threw out the question: ‘if ur child wanted a Vick jersey for Xmas, would you buy it?’

Clark promptly responded:

The European’s won the Ryder Cup today by a score of 14 1/2 – 13 1/2. UK Prime Minister David Cameron was quick to congratulate Monty and his team on a “stunning victory.” Europe has now won four of the last five Ryder Cups. US fans can only fume.

The most recent fines to come down from the front office on NFL players who tweeted either during the game or too close to kick-off: Darnell Dockett ($5,000) and Chad OchoCinco ($25,000).

Ryan Grant, who’s out for the year with a right ankle, would like to avoid a similar penalty.

This afternoon, Grant, whose Packers take on the Bears in tonight’s Monday Night Football game, tweeted a rather interesting question.

One Twitter user thinks it should only apply to those with thumb injuries. Wise guy. Personally, I’d like to cite the NBA allowing Dwight Howard to tweet during a playoff game that he was suspended from back in May 2009.

I’d love to see the NFL reward him for helping them further define the rules of social media usage for players (whether they realize it or not) and at least get back to him on this. RT me here, and help someone @NFL take notice before tonight’s game.

UPDATE: Ryan Grant chose not to tweet last night during the game, but I’m sure he had some frustration to voice as his Packers went down 20-17 to the Bears – after dominating the early part of the game.

NFL PR Brian McCarthy, or @NFLPRGUY on Twitter, made it clear that since he wasn’t with the team it was Grant’s call. Thanks for clearing that up.

Last question: Is there any gray area to this “not with the team” rule at all? Say a guy gets suspended or cut – what’s happens if Roethlisberger or Trent Edwards decides to join Twitter this week?
