And I don’t think he’s going to considering that he’s retweeting stuff like this.

By now most sports fans are learning that Jay Cutler most likely tore a ligament in his knee, and that’s why we got to witness the brilliance and agony of Caleb Hanie (and just the agony of Todd Collins) yesterday. Cutler didn’t just quit, as some people – like MJD – may have suggested.

If you’re like me, you watched yesterday’s game in a crowded bar where you couldn’t hear the sound, and probably never thought that it was even a consideration that Cutler up and quit on his team. I think the other MJD, Matthew J. Darnell from Yahoo! Sports, summed it up best in in these two paragraphs:

The notion that he quit yesterday doesn’t make sense. Cutler was playing poorly, so he wanted out of the game? He was taking a beating, so he didn’t want to play anymore?

Like Jay Cutler has never played poorly or taken a beating before. As a matter of fact, if there’s anything that Jay Cutler has proven in his career, it’s that when he’s throwing interceptions, he is absolutely willing to stay on the field and keep throwing interceptions. It’s his defining trait.

Cutler diagnoses forth coming. As for Maurice, I’ll continue to follow him, but expect less offerings of remorse, more TwitPics…

UPDATE (2:45 PM EST): Lovie Smith sez Cutler has a sprained MCL, would have been questionable for the Super Bowl.

The “repeat the three-peat” wins of the NBA finals of ‘96, ‘97, and ‘98 created a cadre of basketball superstars and characters and set the bar at a new high for the next generation of players. Now a little piece of that victory is up on the auction block. In a testament to the far reach of the recession, former Bulls guard and assistant coach to the Sacramento Kings, Randy Brown, has declared bankruptcy, and his three championship rings will be for sale to the highest bidder via online auction at WestAuction.com.

Auction is set to start May 19, bid for a ring starts at $19,000.

Wow, that is truly unfortunate news.

I haven’t worked as hard, and definitely never will, for anything in my life as hard as that guy probably worked to get three NBA titles. Would love to see this story play out where a 90′s era Bulls PR guy or Accounts Payable guy who snagged a ring by being part of the association turns one over to Brown.

Could happen, right? After all, we’ve got 284 people (who presumably weren’t players) selling various Championship rings on Ebay right now.

Before you get too offended, understand that contained within this post is an opportunity to hang with Scottie Pippen and drink free beer on a Sunday afternoon, as the title suggest.

The Tribeca Film Festival is getting underway, and amongst the films premiering at the Fest is the outlandish doc Midgets vs. Mascots. I’ll let the description speak for itself…

In this “Borat” meets “Jackass” shockumentary, 5 little people and 5 mascots battle for $1 million apiece in competitions like “how few insults does it take to get punched in a bar”, and “alligator wrestling”. Gary Coleman, leading the littles as himself, is a comedic freight train (or train wreck) as he gets into actual fist fights with mascots, coaches and even Scottie Pippen. Like “Borat”, much of the film is shot “guerilla improv” as they surprise unsuspecting bystanders when the teams crash restaurants, bars and neighborhoods during outrageous competitions.

Well, after viewing this trailer, I think it’s possible that Coleman & Co. may have usurped Sasha Cohen, and his upcoming part deux of the Ali G series Bruno, in the shock dept.

Gary, with all due respect, it’s a fair question. What else have you done? In fact, the first person to email me the show from this photo below (Gary appeared in an Episode once) wins the chance to, again, meet Scottie Pippen and drink free beer next Sunday.

The details, Gunaxin and Scottie are hosting a pre-party next Saturday in New York City at the Village Pourhouse, with free open bar from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.! Afterwards, we’re going to check out the screening of Midgets vs. Mascots. Send me the title of the show and you get to come hang.
