Dan Gilbert to start a boot camp in Cleveland

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Relax, it’s a business boot camp. And say what you want about how cheesy and comic sansy Dan Gilbert is, but I know I’m not the majority owner of anything other than my collection of nerd gadgets.

The name Bizdom U could use some work however. From Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Dan Gilbert, the majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, announced today that he will bring a non-profit entrepreneurship boot camp called Bizdom U to downtown Cleveland next year.

Gilbert made the announcement while visiting Cleveland to accept the 2010 Ruth Ratner Miller Award from the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. The annual award recognizes people who have made major achievements in advancing and enhancing the center city.

Bizdom U is a four-month to six-month training program in subjects including marketing, sales and finance. During the training process, the entrepreneurs develop plans for businesses that must be located within the urban core. Gilbert founded the program in Detroit in 2007 and plans to open up the first Cleveland boot camp to as many as 20 entrepreneurs in 2011.

As an aside, Gilbert would also like you to know he still doesn’t regret that letter to the fans he posted on the Cavs website at the end of last season, as he told ESPN Radio this morning.

That’s great I say, now write more of them, Dan (why do you think I Googled your name today in the first place?)

Jerome Harrison: Underwhelming to Undrafted Fantasy Keeper?

Monday, December 21st, 2009

You know you’re poor at Fantasy Football when your team’s most harrowing performance of the year comes from a middling running back in Week 15 of the NFL Season, or as far as your fantasy team is concerned – the second round robin round of the consolation ladder. Also, you left this player on your bench (where he belonged for most of the season).

Mostly underwhelming all year, Jerome Harrison was truly unstoppable yesterday in the Browns’ win over Kansas City, grabbing 286 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Even more impressive, he shattered Jim Brown’s previous team record of 237 yds. Most impressive, that’s 52 fantasy points. As such, a performance of this magnitude can’t help but make me question: undrafted keeper in 2010?

Conflicted isn’t the right word, but it’s the first word that comes to mind.

In NFL fan Hell…

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Every game is this game.

And while we’re throwing some jabs the Lions way, fast forward four days in the future from their Doofus Bowl against the Browns…

This Thanksgiving marks the 5th anniversary of Detroit retiring Barry Sanders #20 – and it’s been at least that long since they should be allowed to host a Thanksgiving Day NFL football game. Since that 2004 game that honored Sanders, Detroit is 0-5 on Thanksgiving and has been outscored 179 – 62 by their opponents. The last time Detroit won on Thanksgiving was in 2003 against Green Bay, the team they face this year as a matter of fact. Also, the team that beat them 26-0 in Week 6.

The Thanksgiving games have been been a league tradition since 1920, and Detroit has been a host since 1934. However, what’s more important – league tradition or league integrity?

I’m not a league official, I’m just a guy who asks questions.

“Gone!!!…No, it’s not!”

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

For the social media junkies reading this, if you’re aspiring to get something linked on Fark (a veritable cavalcade of referral traffic) take note of the headline for this submission…

If Curtis Granderson had been at Little Bighorn, the results may have been a bit different (with video of “Play of the Year” candidate)

The real star of this clip is Grady Sizmore’s face. Talk about falling under a spell of doldrums upon seeing his would-be game-winning walk-off hyphen-inducing home run robbed by Granderson. Did he promise a terminal cancer kid he was going to hit a walk-off tonight?

According to MLB.com, Sizemore wasn’t available for comment, but Indians’ broadcaster Al Pawlowski’s call pretty much hit on the emotion:

“GONE!!! … No it’s not!”

Hip-Hop’s leading paper chaser turned ESPN.com blogger, Lil Wayne, is now podcasting too. You can check it out here: “Tim Tebow has a chip on his shoulder the size of a funyon,” brace yourself for 5+ minutes of shout outs towards the end.

During the first of the two fresh podcasts put up yesterday, Weezy had a message for favorite Major Leaguer, Manny Ramirez (i’m his number one fan, and his number two fan), saying if Manny goes to his hated Yankees he’s going to dedicate the best song on Tha Carter IV to reprimanding Manny (quote, if he goes blue, I’m off the mane train, mang).

The Ting Tings were fantastic opening for MGMT on Sunday, and I think I’m in love with their Dublin lass lead vocalist.

…the other band that opened – Black Moth Super Rainbow – was a super waste of my time. See more Tings Tings after the links:
