Philly to greet Mike Vick, starting Eagles QB, for the first time

Friday, November 19th, 2010

According to Twitter, Mike Vick just got off the phone with Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia.

If the Philly fans share Nutter’s sentiment, expect a rousing display of exuberance Sunday night when Vick comes out the tunnel.

Eagles.com points out that this will be the first time this season that Vick will be introduced as the Eagles starting quarterback.

At approximately 8:22 PM, Michael Vick will be introduced to the Eagles faithful as the starting quarterback for the first time. Considering the season that Vick has had, especially Monday night’s game in Washington, one can only imagine what the reception will be.

Vick said Friday that he hasn’t thought too much about his introduction before today, but it’s something that he’s excited to experience in Philadelphia.

My prediction: a rousing display of exuberance.

I had to throw Vick a nice one after giving him and his people a hard time about failing to launch MikeVick.com this week (now, coming soon).

MikeVick.com remains day to day

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Mike Vick was named NFL Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row - first QB to do that since Randall Cunningham in his comeback year – and all is quiet on the contract extension front.

But more importantly, what’s up with the website?

It may just be a clever ruse to get Pro Bowl votes (hey, Marcus Vick tweeted it!), if so, that works for me. This will be the second day in a row that I mention that the entire website is a full-browser link to the Pro Bowl ballot, currently.

According to the MikeVick.com homepage, the website is launching today. It was supposed to be yesterday. Frankly, I don’t expect to be wildly impressed – Lebron’s website is slick as hell, and I’ve only been back once (to see the nine year old phenom, right) since the launch. Just thought launching yesterday, post-record setting MNF performance, would have been a huge win. Also, got to believe they’ll be something interesting on their about, let’s call it, the journey back?

Stay tuned, Marcus.

Will you cast your Pro Bowl ballot for Mike Vick?

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

His team is tied for first in the NFC East division with a handsome 6-3 record. His performance last night was statistically unprecedented. To boot, he’s Top-10 in total Fantasy points.

Mike Vick’s status hasn’t been this high since Madden NFL 2004.

MikeVick.com is set to launch today – if it does, what can I say, impeccable timing. Currently however, the site is one giant link to the NFL Pro Bowl ballot, hmmm?

Begs the obvious question, would you vote for Vick? It may end up being the ultimate vote of confidence from the fans. There are plenty of people – for example, the Mike Vick Facebook fans – who are congratulating him on turning his life around. This character analysis is clearly referencing his 115 QB rating and 11 touchdowns with zero interceptions. Those who truly feel that Vick’s performance is a feel-good comeback story should cast their ballot and validate.

I personally think it’s a no brainer vote.

Toss The Burner: Nov. 19, 2008

Hurling doesn’t fool around when it comes to discipline. This makes Roger Goodell’s dealing with Pacman Jones look like permissive parenting…

A LENGTHY 96-week ban has been handed down to [John Cussen] following an incident in the west Limerick team’s county junior A hurling championship semi-final win over St. Patrick’s.

Cussen was charged with “bringing the game to disrepute” after he joined in a brawl that broke out in the final quarter of a game between Monagea and St. Patrick’s. Order was eventually restored, and the game finished with Monagea prevailing.

Kenneth Dawson, of St. Patrick’s, was also banned for 12-weeks for abusive treatment of a match official.

The Competition Control Committees of Irish Hurling do not take these incidents lightly. Last May, eight players from teams in Cork and Clare were suspended for a match following a brawl. Cussen’s ban of nearly two years was pinned on him by the Limerick Competition Control Committee. No mention if an appeal to Hurling’s Central Competition Control Committee will be sought.
