Well, Lil Wayne went and did it, and he delivered.
I’m from New Orleans, but I’m a Packers fan/We knocked the Eagles and the Falcons and the Bears off/Now we ’bout to cut Troy Polamalu’s hair off.
Hear the full Green & Yellow freestyle at Nah Right. I’m not sure why they went with a photo of Lil Wayne bowling – other than to remind us that even his shins are fully tatted.
And once more, do check out the Kobe rap from awhile back if you missed that.
To supplement the astute observations that took place throughout 2010 on Steady Burn I posted quite a bit on my Posterous – mostly music videos and musical performances that I enjoyed during the year. Including the best below starting with Lil Wayne and Eminem on SNL last week.
Note: Several of these were originally posted as band appearances on Jimmy Fallon that have since expired. I did my best to find adequate substitutions.
That would be my dismal non-attempt at offering an opening line to the Lil’ Wayne tribute rap for Usain Bolt. The song is probably already in production – probably already in post-production considering the news that Bolt is a fan of Weezy came out hours ago.
“When I was in the Olympics,” he told us, “I didn’t really listen to music. During the Olympics, it was mainly reggae, a little hip-hop. But I like Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, those guys. That’s who we listen to in Jamaica. A little bit of Ludacris. But as long as it’s hot, we got it.” [...]
“Right now, it’s Lil Wayne, #1,” he said. “He’s hot. He’s got everything. He sings the right tunes. I’m seriously listening to all his songs right now. Really sitting down, listening to his lyrics, and he’s got his lyrics [down] pat now. He’s got his lyrics. He’s coming up like Jay-Z. He’s smooth. He’s got a different flow from Jay-Z, but lyrics-wise, he’s got it. He’s a lyricist. Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, I don’t care who comes third. These guys have the whole place on edge, man. It’s hot.”
He run fast, Weezy gets cash…
Geez, I am a wack MC. Can you think of anything better? Doesn’t matter. Wayne’s already dashed his way in and out of the studio. It’s probably on like 7 mixtapes by now.
Speaking of, How did Mixtape Daily get an interview with Usain Bolt?
His next courtside seat might be in-between Nicholson and that weird Adler guy, because Lil Wayne love, love, loves Kobe. His new song, aptly titled “Kobe Bryant” opens…
Kobe doing work.
2-4 on my shirt
he the greatest on the court
and I’m the greatest on the verse.
Going for the fourth ring
like it was his first.
Gotta get the gleam, do it for Kareem!
There were a lot of unfortunate moments during the Grammys last night (like the Jonas brother barking orders at Stevie Wonder on stage, where does that boy get off?!). Thankfully, the Hip-Hop Summit was not one of them.
Boss. Here’s my power rankings:
Jay-Z
M.I.A. (aka Pregosaurus)
Lil’ Wayne
Kanye
T.I.
To be fair to T.I., Dead and Gone was the first song I listened to when I got up this morning. Anyway, throw your power rankings for this in the comments. If this performance didn’t do it for you, feel free to leave your Grammy babe power rankings as well (#1 Carrie Underwood, #2 Gywneth Paltrow, #3 Katy Perry, #399 Adele).
Some strong endorsements from the Hip-Hop community – Lil’ Wayne (see it or don’t see it…just know it’s important) and Snoop Dog (my nephew, Baron Davis, yeah, the All-Star point guard…).
Narrated by Forest Whitaker, directed by Z-Boy Stacy Peralta (Dogtown & The Z-Boys) and Executive Produced by Baron Davis, Crips & Bloods is currently playing at the IFC Theatre in New York City.
During the first of the two fresh podcasts put up yesterday, Weezy had a message for favorite Major Leaguer, Manny Ramirez (i’m his number one fan, and his number two fan), saying if Manny goes to his hated Yankees he’s going to dedicate the best song on Tha Carter IV to reprimanding Manny (quote, if he goes blue, I’m off the mane train, mang).
Thankfully, this was tee’d up as the Lil Wayne death hoax – hoax being the opportune term. Thanks Pop Candy for couching that, I don’t know if I could handled this otherwise.
….And what of my unnatural fascination with Lil Wayne? The guy is a hook machine!
I’ve long been campaigning (lamenting to people with no authority or pull, whatsoever) in favor of the four-day work week. It obviously hasn’t happened…yet.
In the interest of idealists nationwide, each Friday I’m going to draft a list of how I could be better spending my time if I wasn’t confined to the office.
Because I am nothing, if not overly productive, during freedom time.
