Nike releases ad featuring everyday super athletes – who are some of these people?

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

I subscribe to Creativity Online’s email distribution, because I have a high opinion of my brain. The content is a lot of agency comings and goings, but every once in awhile they post a video that I really enjoy and appreciate.

For instance, yesterday, they posted this ad from Nike’s braintrust Wieden + Kennedy that “celebrates the achievements of everyday athletes and aims to inspire movement.”

You will watch and find out that some of these people are far from everyday athletes.

Who are some of these superior humans?  The guy who can do a back-flip in his wheelchair must be known, right? I’d love to find out.

WE ARE THE DESTROYERS is pretty cool

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Earlier today, I found myself asking asking why is Darrelle Revis on Stereogum.com, an indie music blog, wearing a smooth jacket in a Nike ad? Tagline: More Than The Island.

Upon further investigation, found out that he’s part of a heap of young NFL players who are promoting the Nike Destroyer jacket from Nike Sport, including Revis, Larry Fitzgerald, Johnny Knox and DeSean Jackson. Three-times Olympic Medallist Allyson Felix models the women’s version.

Citing what I saw on Stereogum, the ads look pretty slick as wrapper on blogs, and the campaign is starting to gain steam in social media – DeSean Jackson tweeted a link to his video (see below).

Since this is sportswear, which means attire not necessarily tied to athletic wear (right?), Nike is getting some non-pros involved as well – like the band Ra Ra Riot, who are in a video on Nike.com talking about musical inspiration sought through trying to be the best at exercising.

Oh, and the Destroyer jacket is available for $175 on Nike.com.

Many Triumphant Returns

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Haven’t posted on here in awhile – five days, what a ball of suck and fail I’ve become.

But, I refuse to relent.

….

Moving right along, Tiger Woods gets back to crushing his competition today (2:02 p.m. EST tee time). I like this move of starting out in a Match Play tournament (all you gotta do is be better than the one guy you’re playing against). Many triumphant returns to Tiger.

Check out this clever ad from Nike Golf…

AirBama…

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Shout out to Melfi for this (and, hell, who doesn’t love twittersourcing!)

Maybe, maybe not, you picked up your Barack Obama Punahou High School basketball jersey when we were all shilling for that a while back…in the same throwback light, check out what, in my opinion, is the best in campaign athletic wear yet:
This is of course a retro Air Jordan favorite from when Michael was in his prime, or what I like to call the Steve Kerr era.

Still gotta do my Wire post…didn’t happen yesterday (I guess that’s what you get when you follow up an epic series finale with a few hours of subsequent Bud-Proper drinking and a week’s DVR worth of Jeopardy re-runs).

Watching multiple Jeopardies on DVR has shown me just how inefficient my day-to-day truly is. When you eliminate the commercials and the spirit-crippling Trebeck interviews with the contestants you can knock those babies out real quick.

Found this blog by way of Jodie’s Gossip on Sports, and it moved me to goof off with Nike ID a little. I’ll tell you what, you can come up with some real Mickey Mouse sneaker designs on that site…

Determined to give my one-day late reaction of The Wire today. Wanted to first finish reading Alan Sepinwall’s take on the final episode (it’s bulky), and I also hear that this interview with Michael K. Williams (Omar) is not to be missed.

Inspired Thoughts:
“Every time you go in there, you know that coming out it’s going to be OK,” my dear friend Young Braj, commenting on the presence of a bidet in the bathroom at my new office.
