Thoughts and condolences go out to Gerard Cosloy, whose Austin, TX house burned down early this morning.

Gerard is indeed a sports blogger who runs Can’t Stop The Bleeding. He posted a photo of the rubble of his former home on his site today, along with the quote: “This was a hell of a way to get out of hoovering the living room.”

Gerard told the Austin American-Statesmen, “There are a lot of people who have a lot less than I do who deal with a lot worse, but this is pretty bad.”

More so than an establish sports blogger, Cosloy is an indie rock legend. He’s worked with such influential bands as Sonic Youth, Big Black, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, and Yo La Tengo. He started the rock label Homestead Records, putting out early work by Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, and is the co-owner of Matador Records.

I just got done reading about how he got F’d over by Dinosaur Jr in the mid-80s in Our Band Could Be Your Life. Plus, I think he’s a Mets fan. Wow, I feel bad for this dude.

A Texas high school girls basketball team on the winning end of a 100-0 game has a case of blowout remorse.

Now officials from The Covenant School say they are trying to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

“It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened,” Kyle Queal, the head of the school, said in a statement, adding the forfeit was requested because “a victory without honor is a great loss.”

The private Christian school defeated Dallas Academy last week. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers — even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

Awarding the demoralized team a pity win, would you say this is fanning the fire, fueling the fire, or is this jet-fueling the fire? You want to get these kids back a little self respect, where was the coach’s order to have one of the irrational teens take out some kid who went 10-15 from behind the arc with a cold-cock out of frustration. (If everyone directly involved is hell bent on making a teeny bopper drama out of this, I’m not going to be the one who reverts. No way.)

Rivals.com – School seeks to forfeit 100-0 win

Just last weekend, a team from New York City called the Gotham Girls All-Stars competed in the Eastern Regional Championships at the Derby in Dairyland, in Madison, WI. Not only have they embraced Batman’s nom de guerre for NYC, but they won the tournament, so apparently they’re dirty.

This weekend, the 2008 WFTDA season stampedes into the capital city of the derby revival – Austin, TX – for the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls Calvello Cup Championship.

Giving it its due recognition, COEDMagazine.com pieced together a photo album that shows the softer side of hell on wheels. Here are some of the goodies…
